Professor Gultekin has been on the faculty of the Finance department of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania since 1981. His main research interests include corporate finance and capital markets, financial development, and privatization. Professor Gultekin is a leading expert in the private equity (PE) industry. His current coursework includes financial tools, techniques, and best practices used in buyouts and acquisitions, covering both mergers and acquisitions, and buyouts by private equity partnerships.
His past consulting has included work as Senior privatization adviser to several governments and organizations on issues of privatization and economic reform. Governments include Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Poland, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, and Turkey; organizations range from The World Bank and European Bank to the United Nations Development Program to the United States Agency for International Development as well as major international corporations.
Professor Gutelkin received a BSc. in mechanical engineering from Robert College, an MBA from Bogazici University, and a PhD from The Wharton School.
